Polar Bears: “Between a Rock and a Hard Place”
Cornell Estates and OASIS Lecture
Friday, December 10th
1:30 pm
Polar bears have been everything from a spokesbear for Coca-Cola to the symbol of the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. Most recently, the polar bear has become the icon for the Global Climate Change movement. Find out more about the fascinating Polar Bear as Dr. David Shepherdson presents Polar Bears: Between a Rock and a Hard Place on Friday, December 10th, at 1:30 pm in the Party Room.
Shepherdson will discuss some of the challenges of keeping polar bears in zoo environments, the status of polar bears in the wild, and the likely consequences for polar bears (and other wildlife) if climate change is not slowed by changes in our own behavior.
Dr. Shepherdson is a widely published expert on animal behavior. Currently based at the Oregon Zoo, his co-authored book on zoo enrichment programs is the definitive text in the field. He has also conducted research on polar bears in zoos for a number of years and has been lucky enough to observe polar bears in the wild on a number of occasions, meeting many of the people that spend their lives studying them.
Cornell Estates is proud to partner with OASIS Portland which offers challenging programs in the arts, humanities, wellness, and technology and volunteer services. Invite your friends and family to join us for this exciting adventure on Friday, December 10th, at 1:30 pm!
