Honoring Mothers throughout Washington County
FORMER LADIES NATIONAL FIDDLE CHAMPION will perform the upcoming FREE Mother’s Day concert and reception at Cornell Estates on Friday, May 7th at 1:30pm
Carol Ann Wheeler, Former Ladies National Fiddle Champion, will perform a free concert and reception for mothers throughout Washington County in celebration of Mother’ Day. She will play a variety of styles, including Irish, Scottish, Canadian, Texas, Gypsy & Classical violin and is proud to preserve America’s Heritage of Old-Time Fiddle Music. In the audience will be Carol Ann’s mother, Irene Ledbetter, a resident of Cornell Estates.
Fiddle or “mountain music” represent perhaps the oldest form of North American traditional music other than Native American music and thus termed “old-time”. Her contributions to Old-Time music can be found in her numerous instructional Books and Recordings with the Mel Bay Company. Jeff Heberle, who plays the guitar, adds the perfect accompaniment to the violin for their performance.
Historically, the fiddle was nearly always the leading melodic instrument, and if no other instruments were available, dances were accompanied only by a single fiddler, who often also acted as a dance caller.
